CREST Waltham Forest is particularly committed to seeking to benefit the community
through the promotion of voluntary endeavour and actively seeks to promote
volunteering in all aspects of its operation. You can help out CREST in the
following ways:
CREST's work is overseen by a management committee who are all volunteers.
Although these are normally voted in at our Annual General Meeting, the committee
does have discretion to co-opt people between AGM. The committee meets once
every two month for a couple of hours in an evening. It is responsible for
defining policy and the overall direction of CREST. Committee members are
also expected to provide support to staff by having an occasional presence
in the office. We are particularly interested in encouraging those who have
a working knowledge of or special interest in specific areas of our work (childcare,
mental health, disability, community development). If you are interested in
pursuing this further please e-mail:
alan.horne@crestwf.org.uk or contact us by telephone on 020 8521
2975.
APPEALS OFFICER
CREST is always in need of additional funding in order to keep its work going.
In the past, we have had an Honorary Appeals Officer who has, in collaboration
with CREST Treasurer and the Co-ordinator, prepared and submitted funding
applications to grant-making bodies. This position is currently vacant and
we are looking for someone with the time to research possible sources of funding,
type up funding applications and keep records of applications made. This can
be very rewarding - one letter can result in thousands of pounds. In order
to do this you really do need to have basic computer skills with, ideally,
access to your own PC. The work would take an hour or two a week and could
at least partly be undertaken from home. If you are interested in pursuing
this further please e-mail:
alan.horne@crestwf.org.uk or contact us by telephone on 020 8521 2975.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES OFFICER
CREST is committed to the pursuit of equality of opportunity in all aspects
of its operation. Its Equal Opportunities Policy commits CREST to appointing
an Honorary Equal Opportunities Officer who has responsibility for the implementation
of the Policy. This work involves overseeing the collation of Equal Opportunities
statistics and the presentation of reports about equal opportunities to both
the Management Committee and at the Annual General Meeting. The work would
take an hour or two a week and could at least partly be done from home. If
you are interested in pursuing this further please e-mail:
alan.horne@crestwf.org.uk or contact us
by telephone on 020 8521 2975.
OLDER PEOPLE WITH A DISABILITY
Are you available during the day? Like to work as part of well-established
team helping to provide support and stimulation to local elders? CREST operates
three weekly Groups for Frail elderly and Older People with a Disability in
Walthamstow on Tuesday afternoons, in Chingford on Wednesday afternoons and
an all day Group meeting in Leytonstone on Thursdays. You will join a friendly
team helping out by escorting our users onto the council ambulances, assisting
with activities, making refreshments etc. and generally befriending the clients.
On-site training and support are provided. At our Leytonstone Group you would
be part of our innovative scheme in partnership with London and Quadrant Housing
Association to provide activities, health awareness sessions etc. to isolated
older people. Occasional trips to local places of interest are also arranged.
Volunteers enjoy a full day outing during August each year. Various "Tea Parties"
and "Fish and Chips Lunches" as well as Christmas Dinner Celebrations, take
place during the year. It's really rewarding work. If you would like to find
out more, please email:
disability@crestwf.org.uk or contact us by telephone on 020 8521 2975 and ask for Julia
Griffiths.
