CREST Announces Death of Patron
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of CREST Patron, Kath Osborne. Kath died peacefully in Whipps Cross Hospital on Saturday 27th December 2014 after an admission with a chest infection. She was 92 years of age.
A lifelong member of Shernhall Methodist Church, Kath first began volunteering for CREST in the mid 1980s shortly after she had retired from a career working with the Greater London Council. She quickly became a key person in the organisation and execution of CREST’s Annual Holiday for Older People with a Disability — overseeing the work of a team of dedicated volunteers.
Her care and compassion for older people was only matched by her passion for the care of people with mental health problems. She was a key figure in the establishment of the Welcome In — a weekly mental health drop-in run under the auspices of the Wood Street Neighbourhood Group of Churches. This provided a meal and support for many local people experiencing mental health problems for many years and provided the inspiration for CREST’s Sunshine Club.
She quickly became a member of the CREST Management Committee acting as Secretary and then Chair during the 1990s. Kath was also a stalwart of the Oasis — a weekly ecumenical prayer and meditation group. Despite increasing ill health in her latter years, Kath continued to support CREST actively right up to her death being honoured with the role of Patron of CREST by the Management Committee in recognition of her work.
A very sad start to a new year — she will be sorely missed at CREST.
At the present moment in time provisional plans for her funeral are for a committal at City of London Cemetery followed by a funeral service at Shernhall Methodist Church on Tuesday 20th January 2015 — timings to be announced.
