Don Munro, 1928 to 2016
It was with great sadness that we learned today of the death of Don Munro of the Starlighters Theatre Company, which has staged numerous performances at Harmony Hall in aid of CREST. Don and his partner the late Anton Copley founded Starlighters in 1980. After serving in the Royal Air Force, Don found his passion in working in the theatre. Over a memorable life, he has put on many shows in places like the Royal Albert Hall , the Royal Opera House and many more large venues in London. He even put on shows for the Royal family.
Don was one of the best of friends that CREST could ever have. It was he who was responsible for Starlighters originally coming to Harmony Hall (what he called “… the little theatre round the corner …”) despite the fact he never let us forget the sacrilege of having cupboard storage at the back of the stage severely hindering performances — comparable he said to parking wheely-bins up there!
Needless to say, Don will be sorely missed — most definitely one in a million — who gave very many local aspiring actors the opportunity to share their talent.
Details of his funeral are yet to be announced.
